Thomas Dolby - from I Scare Myself to La Vie en Rose

Thomas Dolby recorded I scare myself in 1983, as a track of the album Flat Earth (1984). This recording was made on the tube around those days:

In 2001, Dolby was appointed Musical Director of the TED - Ideas Worth Spreading. He performed live La Vie en Rose, together with Rochelle Garnier in 2004:

I look forward to seeing what he will be doing in 2024...

  1. Luci, thank you for posting this. It brings back great memories of Thomas Dolby, the Tube, the Eighties, 80s Music, girlfriends of the moment and so much more.

Thomas Dolby was famous for being a synth geek and indeed I think I counted 9 different synths in that show. But hey, the geek himself was playing a real piano, had a real bass player and a (shock horror!) acoustic guitar!

He was a hero of mine even though he never gained massive commercial success. But hey, he did get to perform Live Aid with David Bowie playing keyboards on the song "Heroes". So that's two of my heroes right there. Even three if you count the song which is one of my all time favourites.

So what will Thomas be doing in 2024? I reckon he'll be refreezing the north pole and mentoring the future bands who will be "sons of Duran Duran" and "sons of Tears for Fears".
